  • 28th April 2019 : How to confidently teach mixed ability classes with Charlie

We want to support and empower yoga teachers to thrive in this ever evolving Yoga industry. Whether you’re an enthusiastic yoga student that simply loves yoga, a teacher in training or newly qualified or have been practicing for years, Ebb&Flow have devised “Teachers Series” to help you expand your knowledge and help you develop your own specialism.

With the expertise of our teaching team, we can help you refine your teachings and guide you along a path of either; running a successful yoga business or hosting a class that makes that makes your students feel special.

Teaching to students of ‘different levels’ in one class is one of the most difficult (and common) challenges a yoga teacher faces… but it is also a skill that can be taught.

In any one class we may encounter students with injuries, limitations, varied experience, age and expectations. Feeling confident to teach an all levels class that feels safe, un-intimidating and comfortable is essential to the ethos of yoga.

Yet a diverse room full of students can really throw us as teachers! There will be situations you can’t prepare for but, whether its meeting the needs of regular mixed group of yogis or coping when a total beginner walks into your dynamic flow class, you can equip yourself to adapt and include those individuals without feeling like the rug has been pulled from under your feet.

This workshop will draw upon the full breadth of yogic practices from biomechanics to philosophy and explore:
Practical strategies to employ when teaching a mix of abilities including how to design a lesson plan where all your students can benefit from your sequences regardless of whether they can practice every pose.
Common injuries/limitations and how to creatively modify for them.
The energetics of teaching to a multi level group.
Emotional and psychological issues that can come up for both ourselves and our students.

  • 19th May 2019 : Cultivating Presence with Katherine & Julee

Do you have a regular meditation practise?  Can you skilfully guide your students in mindful presence to savasana and beyond.  This experiential teachers immersion will help reinforce the importance of a personal meditation practise and will give useful suggestions and prompts to keep your students present and focused.

Whether I’m teaching a new student or participating in a yoga class, I am often aware of the many practitioners who are very quick move out of savasana.  This indicates to me that they have had some difficulty staying in the present moment on their mat – both during the moving practice and/or during savasana.  As teachers, we have the opportunity not only to teach asana but the depth of presence in asana – something that is too often overlooked.  The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yup, meaning to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as ‘union’.  The union of mind, body and spirit.

This workshop will explore:

  • The importance of your own personal mediation practice and how this impacts your teaching
  • How to constantly revisit the importance of being mindfully present throughout our moving practise
  • Being disciplined about keeping 5-10 minutes aside at the end of an hour’s class for savasana.
  • Whether to choose silence or a guided meditation during savasana.
  • Instructions on guiding the student out of savasana and into the outside world
  • Emotional and psychological issues that can come up for both ourselves and our students.

  • 16th June 2019 : Theming a Yoga Class with Liane

  • Why & How to choose themes for your asana classes.
  • How to weave them through the class.
  • Developing vocal skills to illustrate themes through stories, myths, poetry and the ancient yogic texts

Using themes skilfully in your class infuses your teaching with meaning. It is also a way to stay inspired as a teacher and relevant for your students.

When we realise that asana is more than shape but is full of symbolism and layers of meaning we stand in a doorway to make connections that can change our lives.

Yoga asana developed through and around myths and around observation of the natural world.  Using myths and stories brings a new energy and a magic into the physical practice.

Developing your vocal skills of voice production in storytelling and speaking poetry will give you the tools to make your words come alive.
